How to help bring these games back: test a build and report what broke, keep the documentation honest, or suggest a game we should support. Everything happens on Discord.

The Most Useful Thing You Can Do

Play one of these servers and tell us what broke. We can read our own code all day and it will not find the thing that only happens when a real person plays for three hours. Every game here has a channel, and a report with a version number in it turns into a fix.

Other Ways to Help

  • Keep the documentation honest. If a setup guide on this site is wrong, out of date, or assumes something it should not, say so. That is a bug too.
  • Spread the word. These worlds get better the more people are standing in them, and that is not a figure of speech: half the bugs worth fixing only appear with a second player in the room.
  • Suggest a game. If there is an MMO you miss and you would put the hours in to test it, tell us in the general chat. That is how the list grows.

What a Useful Report Looks Like

  • The version, from the launcher or the first lines of the server log.
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
  • Whether it happens every time or happened once.

The versions look alike in a screenshot and behave differently underneath, so a report without a version usually cannot be acted on at all.

Community Rules

  1. Do not be rude to someone asking a question.
  2. Reply with a solution, or with something that moves towards one. Telling someone to use search as a joke is an instant ban.
  3. This is an international community, so English is suggested in all channels. Post in another language if you prefer, and please put a translation alongside it, even a machine one. If there is demand for a non-English channel we will make one.
  4. Have fun. Share what you find and keep learning.

About GoMMO

Every game here runs on GoMMO, the framework we built to bring retro online games back for preservation and for nostalgia. It is written in Go, it speaks TCP and UDP, and it can be wired to as many games as we have the patience to wire. Server binaries run on Windows and Linux, and a ten dollar VPS is enough to host any of them.

More about it will follow. For now the best help is testing what already exists, reporting what breaks, sharing ideas and telling people we are here. Read about the framework.

Thank you for being here.
