The Launcher Updates Your Client

Released 2026-07-27

The launcher checks for updated client files before it starts the game and fetches only what changed, so a client-side fix reaches you on your next launch. No gameplay changes in this build.

No gameplay changed in this build. The launcher keeps your client files current on its own now.

Client Updates on Launch

The launcher checks the server for updated client files before it starts the game and fetches only what changed. When something is fixed on the client side, it reaches you on your next launch without you copying anything.

Three files are never touched by an update: the launcher itself, your launcher.ini, and the handoff file the launcher writes to log you in. Your server address and your saved password are yours, and no update can overwrite them.

If the server is unreachable it verifies what you already have and starts the game anyway. Being unable to check for updates should not stop you playing.

This is off until your launcher.ini names a server. Point URL under [Update] at the server you play on and it starts working:

[Update]
URL          = https://your.server.address

You can also run rflauncher.exe -update to patch without logging in, or -skip-update to launch without checking.

Running Your Own Server

The download carries the client/ folder your server hands out. That folder is your patch server: drop files in, regenerate the index, and every player’s launcher picks it up.

Known Issues

  • No gameplay changed in this build. Everything listed as outstanding in 0.3.4 is still outstanding: the starter-quest spell choice, the area name above the minimap, and the map and teleporter after crossing a bridge.
